NEPSE market breadth · 120 sessions

How many companies are moving with the market.

The index is weighted by size, so a few big banks can carry it. Breadth counts heads: on 16 Oct 2026, 172 of 273 companies that traded rose and 89 fell, and 44% of them closed above their 50-session average.

The advance/decline line

A running total of rose minus fell since 22 Apr. Its level means nothing; its slope does. Rising: more companies up than down, session after session. Now -4373.

Share above their moving averages

Each company’s close against the average of its own last 50 and 200 closes. The 200-session line starts late because few companies had 200 sessions of history until recently.

About market breadth

What is market breadth?
Market breadth measures how many companies take part in a move, rather than how far the index moves. The NEPSE index is weighted by market value, so a few large banks can lift it while most companies fall. Counting how many rose, fell, or sit above their averages shows whether a rally or a slide is broad or narrow.
What does "% above the 50-session average" mean?
For each company with at least 50 sessions of history, the page compares the latest close with the average of its last 50 closes. The figure is the share of those companies trading above it. Above 50% means most companies are in short-term uptrends; a falling share while the index rises is a warning that fewer companies are carrying it.
Why a 115-session high instead of a 52-week high?
A 52-week high needs about 250 sessions of history before every day on the chart. The snapshot behind this page starts on 16 Oct 2025, so to count every session on the chart the same way, a high here is the highest close of the last 115 sessions. The window will lengthen to 250 as the history grows.
Are the counts adjusted for bonus shares?
Yes. When NEPSE adjusts a price after a bonus book closure, the drop is not a real fall, so closes before the book closure are divided by (1 + bonus). Rights issues are not adjusted, because the fair adjustment depends on the rights price.
